Here's what's ahead in 2013! (linky party)

The last day of 2012? What happened to the year? Where did it go? It's 2013 tomorrow? Already?
I can't believe it. But I'm jumping into 2013 with plans for a great year ahead. I've got loads of ideas for school, want to spend lots of good times with friends, and my husband is still planning to open his restaurant. Here's to a busy, wonderful year ahead!

So I'm linking up with Michelle for

The part of this that surprises me the most in the Classroom Must Go. Yesterday I spent some time at school and found myself thinking that I might get rid of my desk. I find myself sitting at my reading table after school instead of at my desk, so why not? I'll need to reorganize my reading area a bit, but I might really open up some space if I get rid of my desk. Hmmmm.... I've read several posts from other teachers who've gotten rid of their desks and are very happy they did. That just might be in my future.
The Technology Focus was hard to come up with. I have 4 older computers, a projector, and document camera. We go to the computer lab once a week too. I really want to find a way for kids to publish their writing using the computer (common core!). Sure am wishing I had a smart board, ipads, etc. But there's got to be a better way to use what I have. Any ideas?
And I have to stop putting aside fitness when I'm tired and have lots to do. That happens far too often and I'm sure it does for lots of other people to.

Hope you have a very happy and wonderful New Year's celebration! Be safe! I'm off to blogstalk some more.
Bye for now,

  2. Hi Chrissy! Thanks for stopping by my blog! I got rid of my desk a couple of years ago, and (most of the time) I'm glad I did. It does help me to stay more organized, since I need my reading table every day! Some of the desk piles just moved to another spot in the room, but I'm working on that... :-)

    Happy New Year!

    1. I hadn't thought of not being able to have so many piles. That's a good enough reason not to have a desk. Thanks, Nichole!

  4. I read The Book Whisperer over the summer and I was completely inspired. It is targeted a little more towards middle school, but I found so many ways that I could change reading in my classroom. I highly recommend it. I also got rid of my desk last year and it was the best thing I have ever done! Once school starts again, I'll blog about how I organize everything without drawers. I feel so much more organized and efficient now!

    1. I'd love to year about you organize without drawers. I am not sure what I'll do with the files in my drawer. But I'm glad to hear that you were so happy you got rid of your desk. I'm pretty sure I'm going to do it. Take care. Thanks for sharing!

  5. We've got lots of the same goals - I am planning on focusing on fitness and need to organize my room this year (and keep it organized!) :)

  6. Thank you so much for linking up with me!

Oh, I so want to get rid of my desk, too! When I mentioned it to one of the APs at the beginning of school {I needed him to try to locate another table for me instead}, he looked at me like I was crazy. Not many middle school teachers want to get rid of their desks I guess. It's still there, but I still have plans in mind to get it out of the way.

    1. I love this idea as a linky party. I'd like to print out my goals and hang them up at school. But without a desk, where will I put it? Sounds like it's time to go to school and figure it out. Have a great new year!

  7. I got rid of my teacher desk this year and do not regret it! I love using my small group table for planning after school. The space is now shared with the students which leaves room for more space for everyone!

The only advice I have for you is to make sure you have shelves or drawers behind your small group table to store all of your "stuff"! After 4 months without a desk, I had a HUGE mess to clean up over the break! Piles of piles I tell you! I will be blogging about the before and after of that soon- with pictures! I am a bit embarrassed but love a good makeover.
