Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom Alphabet Letter Exchange- Revised

UPDATE: As of Thursday night July 12 there are more teachers signed up for this project than I ever anticipated. Don't get me wrong- this is wonderful and I'm thrilled! You all inspire me with your excitement and drive to provide the best learning environments for your students.
As of now the project is full. We have 3 groups of 26 and I think I better stop before I get in over my head. I would love to have a list of teachers who would be willing to fill in later if needed. If you're willing to be on a waiting list in case someone else needs to back out later for some reason, I'd really appreciate it just leave a comment below. Thanks so much!

It's sunny, warm, and my alarm isn't going off every morning. It's wonderful! I also love having this time to plan for next year. This year I want to do a Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom Alphabet Exchange Project. Last year Brooke Perry organized one. It was so much fun! This year she decided not to but said that I could organize it, so here I am. I'm wondering if you'd like to participate too?

Here's how it works:

1. Your class will be assigned a letter of the alphabet and put into a group with 25 other teachers. Each teacher would have their class decorate 26 of that letter. A template like the letter below will be provided. You'll print it on cardstock and have your class decorate it. Decorate it however you like, just have fun and get creative!

2. You'll need to mail 25 of the letters to the members of your group and you'll keep one. Each teacher is responsible for their own postage charges. At the end of the project you should have a complete, unique, student-made alphabet!

3. You could also include a short letter about your class, school, and where you live. This is optional.

The project will run from about September 1st-30th to give everyone time to get back to school, decorate, and mail their letters.

Please let me know if you want to participate. Based on the response I'll move ahead or wait until a later date. Just leave me your name and email and I'll get back to you! I made this image below if you want to blog about this exchange.

  7. I participated in the letter exchange last year and my class loved it! Actually, they loved getting mail of any kind :) I'd really like to do it again. We didn't get all of our letters though :( we wouldn't have minded if we got them later as long as we got them. One of my little girls made our class the letters we didn't receive at home and brought them to school as a surprise. SOOO sweet! My email is andi_monroe@gmail.com. Thanks!!!!

  8. I would definitely like to join in BUT I'm concerned about the cost of mailing ... only 'cause I live in Canada and I discovered this last year how expensive it is to mail stuff to the US. How big would the letters be? If you have a size then I can run down to the post office and find out what it will cost me.
    Thanks!!

    1. I hope this can be affordable enough for you. I'm glad you brought that up. I'll post soon so everyone knows the size. The letters would print on a full sheet of paper but could be cut out and should fit in a small Manila envelope- 6x8" I think. I'll try for sure when I get home tomorrow. I never thought about there being a higher postage rate to Canada.
