Lucky Charms and Oreos

What do Lewis and Clark, Oreos, Pumpkins, Christmas Cards, and Lucky Charms have in common?
Did you guess ? ? ?

It's Projects By Jen! (formerly JenuineTech.com)

Every year Jen puts together online projects for classes worldwide to participate in. Ifyou haven't checked out her projects, I encourage you to. There are different projects appropriate for many grade levels. All of the instructions and procedures are very clear. She also includes the standards so you have some extra justification for doing the project. And there are usually supplementary activities and chance to use a voice thread or skype with other classes. So far I've done 3 projects with my classes and loved them!

Last year I did the Holiday Card Exchange. My students made Christmas cards for classes in the USA and one class in western Australia. I was as excited as my students were to receive the cards in the mail! I put up a map and as the cards came I used a piece of yarn and pushpins to show where on the map the card came from. Lots of teachers included letters from their class describing where they live and that was always very interesting to my students. This is what the bulletin board looked like:

With the St. Patrick's Day project, my students sorted Lucky Charms, graphed and tallied how many of each shape they had in their bag
and then we put the data together and made a class graph and tally chart.
Here's what the kids thought of this project

The Great Egg Roll incorporated measurement (and lots of fun!). My mom and I made marks all along a piece of bulletin board paper so we'd be able to measure how far each egg rolled. I will do this again for sure!
This year Jen is bringing back a Lewis and Clark project. I'm thinking of doing that one, the Holiday Card Exchange, and maybe the St. Patrick's Day project again. Have you ever participated in her projects? If so, leave a little note. It would be fun to hear about your experience!
